Tamil organisations in North America say popular Indian film star Asin's movies will be boycotted by their members, according to a media report today.
"The Federation of Tamil Sangams of North America (FeTNA) will boycott all films of Asin because of her visit to Sri Lanka, despite a ban by the Tamil film industry," said FeTNA president Palani Sundaram in a statement, according to Times of India.
FeTNA is an umbrella grouping of over 30 Tamil sangams across the US.
The federation sent its statement to the South Indian Artistes Association (SIAA), the TOI added.
An SIAA statement, ahead of the International India Film Academy (IFFA) awards in Colombo, appealed to all industry members to stay away from Sri Lanka.
Many stayed away but Asin visited an eye camp in Jaffna, drawing the ire of a section of the SIAA.
On Sunday, at the SIAA's annual general body meeting, it was resolved to refer the issue to a Joint Consultative Committee.
Asin, when contacted, said she went to Jaffna in good faith.
"I stayed away from IFFA because of SIAA's directive and did not flout any diktat," she told TOI from Mumbai.
"I spoke to SIAA president Sarath Kumar and said I was willing to abide by the JCC's directives," she added.
