Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe led UNP congratulated Muttiah Muralitharan on his achievement of capturing 800 Test wickets.
Acting party leader Karu Jayasuriya in a message said ‘He is not only a cricketer, but also a person who has great character being able to withstand various pressures with calm mind”.
“Murali was backed by the entire nation when he was called by the Australian umpires for chucking and therefore Murali is the icon of the nation and loved by the entire nation”, he said.
“Murali never condemned others or had jealousy and reached the great milestone without hindering others”, the message said.
“We wish Murali well and may his record last for ever’, the message added.
