A lady who supplied food to a school in Vavunaitivu, Batticaloa has been arrested after over 70 children fell ill and were hospitalized yesterday with suspected food poisoning, police spokesman S.P Jayakody told Daily Mirror online.The police spokesman said that of the over 70 children who were admitted yesterday for treatment at the Batticaloa hospital most of them had returned home as of this morning. Further investigations are under way. 

Meanwhile the BBC reported that the school is a beneficiary of the World Food Programme meals for school’s and the meals had been cooked in the school kitchen. The Principal of the Irratucholaimadu school said that there has been some rivalry among two parties involved in the cooking.
