Spin bowler Muttiah Muralitharan, who is to retire from Test cricket, told reporters a shortwhile ago he has no plans to enter politics. Murali is working with a charity organization and has obtained land in the North from President Mahinda Rajapaksa for some projects but the spinner says he does not need to be in Politics to do social work.
Born in Kandy to Tamil parents, Muralitharan also noted that it is politicians and the media who have differentiated Tamils and Singhalese but in his mind all are one. Muralitharan also urged the media not to judge cricketers unfairly.
Meanwhile Muralitharan hopes to complete 800 Test wickets during the upcoming Indian Test series in Sri Lanka.
He also said he has resolved his differences with Australian umpire Darrel Hair who had at one time called him a chucker. Murali said that Hair was only giving his "opinion" and so he did not have a personal grudge against the umpire.
Muralitharan announced on Tuesday that he will retire from Test cricket after the first Test starting in Galle on July 18. He has taken 792 Test wickets so far.
