Johnston, Indika still MPs
Political News
The Attorney General was consulted on the position of the two Members of Parliament Johnston Fernando and Indika Bandaranaike in the list of UNP Parliamentarians and the AG’s view was as the Parliament stands dissolved no change of the composition of the Parliament could be made now, Foreign Trade and Export Development Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris said yesterday.

Therefore these two individuals remain as they are until the conclusion of the General Election.

According to the Constitution a ceased Parliament could be convened solely and exclusively for the extension of the State of Emergency and not for any other purpose, he said.

The composition of the Parliament cannot be changed in anyway after its dissolution and it remained until another election is held and concluded. The Government believes that these two Parliamentarians had not lost their seats in Parliament on any legal basis he said.
