A home guard was shot dead by police at Weeragoda in Ampara on Tuesday night when the three wheeler he was going failed to stop at a check point in the Central camp police area. Another soldiers and a civilian who were also in the three wheeler were injured in the shooting, Police said. 

The injured persons are receiving treatment at the Ampara Hospital.
