The well known Web search engine, Google, has introduced to industry watchers its attempt to marry the Web to television.
Developers at a conference last week heard that microchip maker Intel Corp and TV maker Sony Corp have joined the project, which could result in Google taking a large share of the $70 billion TV advertising market.
Google has said its specific TV sets should be ready in time for Christmas buying, allowing viewers to search for live programs, DVR recordings and the Web.
Sony will build devices, marketed as Sony Internet TVs, with Intel providing its processors to run the machines.
Logitech International also will create a Google TV appliance that can work with current high-definition TVs.
