Bombers in city not a threat
Sri Lankan News
LTTE suicide bombers who moved to Colombo   during the war do not pose a threat anymore but the Terrorist Investigations Department (TID) and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) are probing their whereabouts, a high ranking TID official told Daily Mirror online. The official said that while hundreds of suicide cadres had arrived in Colombo during the war, only a few had been used and the rest had disappeared after the defeat of the LTTE last year.

“These cadres are of no use now as they have no military leader to instruct them. After Prabhakaran and other LTTE leaders were killed, they disappeared. They always acted on instructions given by Prabhakaran or some other senior leader,” the TID official said adding that although these cadres did not pose a threat investigations into their whereabouts were continuing by both the TID and CID.

When questioned if the foreign LTTE proxies could pose a threat to the country, the TID official said that such groups are of a political flavour than a military flavour. “These foreign groups have no military power. We will not see another military uprising of the LTTE,” the TID official said.

Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka in an interview with Daily Mirror online last month said that while the defense authorities were on the look out for the suicide cadres, the military would be on high alert till such time they were found.

When asked if the LTTE would raise its head again, the Prime Minister had said that according to intelligence sources, some Sri Lankan’s living overseas had been collecting funds but the reason for such a collection was unknown.
