'Matha', a film by renowned Sri Lankan film director Buddi Keerthisena, based on the island's decades-long conflict faced an unexpected crisis on Friday when its computer hard disk containing several major scenes of the movie was robbed at a production house in Nawala, Nugegoda, its producer said.
The film is scheduled to be screened within a few months, producer - Ruwan Jayasinghe said. This is not just a war film, but a celluloid journey through the history of Asia’s long fought conflict, a close insight of the lives affected and how a nation unified against all odds in the time of need, he said.
The Defence Ministry and Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation played a leading role in the film. Prof. Ariyarathne Ethugala wrote the script of the film while Keerthisena is the director. The police focused attention on the robbery of the computer hard disk containing several scenes of the film while many other items worth millions of rupees at the production house in Nawala, were not tampered with.
Film industry sources said the President has issued instructions to appoint a special team of investigators to probe the robbery. Popular Sri Lankan actors cast in the film include Ravindra Randeniya, Sangeetha Weeraratna and Saumya Liyanage.
