Sri Lankan gems are the world’s number one in quality and are making significant improvement in the exports sector.
Wilson Yuen, President, International Coloured Stones Association said, "Sri Lankan gems are known as the world’s best. The industry has a bright future with its unique local gems."
Addressing the inaugural ceremony of FACETS 2010 ‘The Gem and Jewellery show’, he said that much improvement is needed in the standards of gem cutting and polishing of gems produced in the country.
"The international association is willing to work together with the local industry to improve the necessary standards to capture more market share."
A glittering future for Lankan gems
FACETS 2010 attracted large numbers of foreign delegates who visited the country to witness the beauty of Sri Lankan gems.
"The show mainly focussed on gems which have been identified as a benchmark for the Sri Lankan industry and been internationally recognised," said Macky Hashim, Chairman, Sri Lanka Gem and Jewellery Association (SLGJA).
"The show has been organized as a platform for buyers and sellers, enabling whole sale purchasing at the exhibition for more convenience."
"Several delegations from neighbouring countries have taken part in the event to display their products along with the Sri Lankan products. Also several business delegations from around the world have arrived here to witness the event."
According to SLGJA, over 1,000 visitors have arrived in Sri Lanka to witness the gem and jewellery.
